Explosive devices found at Brandenburg substation in attempted attack on German power grid
On September 1, 2026, police in Brandenburg, Germany, discovered unconventional explosive and incendiary devices, including rockets with explosives, at a substation in Turnow-Preilack near the Jänschwalde coal-fired power plant. The devices were found after possible damage to a line was detected around 8 a.m. Bomb disposal experts defused the devices, which did not explode. Grid operator 50Hertz reported a brief line interruption, but all lines are back in operation and the general power supply is unaffected. No injuries occurred. The State Criminal Police Office is investigating.
