The Pentagon has revised its casualty reporting for the conflict with Iran, reducing the number of U.S. service members killed in action from 18 to 14 by moving four recent deaths into a new 'Overseas Operations' category. The change, effective July 7, separates casualties from the ongoing Operation Epic Fury, which began in February 2026. The move follows criticism over the initial reduction and comes after the collapse of a June ceasefire. The Trump administration argues the renewed hostilities reset the 60-day clock under the War Powers Resolution, allowing continued military action without congressional approval. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously claimed the ceasefire paused the clock, a position disputed by lawmakers. The new accounting lists 207 wounded in 'Overseas Operations' and 417 wounded in Operation Epic Fury, totaling 624 wounded and 18 killed across both categories.
