Israel Intensifies Bombing in Lebanon Killing 22 as Washington Talks Begin

Direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon commenced in Washington on Thursday, occurring just one day after a significant escalation in Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon. Despite a truce that has been in effect since April 17, the Israeli military intensified its bombardment on Wednesday, resulting in at least 22 deaths, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. The strikes targeted over 30 locations, primarily focusing on vehicles and infrastructure in southern Lebanon, including areas near Beirut, Saida, Tyre, and villages such as Arabsalim and Roumin. Among the victims were several children and women. The Israeli Defense Forces stated they were targeting Hezbollah terrorist infrastructures following evacuation orders for specific villages. Since the truce began, more than 400 people have been killed and over 10,000 homes damaged or destroyed. These talks, mediated by the United States, proceed despite strong opposition from Hezbollah. Concurrently, regional tensions remain high with reports of a ship being boarded off the UAE coast and heading toward Iranian waters, highlighting the broader instability in the Middle East.
