Iran Sets Five Conditions for Resuming Talks with the US

Iran has declared it will engage in negotiations with the United States only if Washington meets five specific conditions, according to a report by the Fars news agency citing an informed source. These prerequisites include ending military conflicts on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon, lifting all sanctions against Iran, unblocking frozen Iranian assets, providing compensation for damages incurred, and formally recognizing Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. This development follows a period of heightened tension after the US and Israel launched Operation Epic Fury against Iranian facilities in February 2026, citing concerns over Iran's nuclear program. Iran retaliated with Operation True Promise 4, leading to a ceasefire announced in April. Despite the cessation of hostilities, the US imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports, which Tehran argues reinforces its distrust of Washington. Pakistan is currently acting as a mediator between the two nations. While previous talks in Islamabad failed to yield breakthroughs, mediators are working to arrange new negotiations. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains Washington's primary objective, though he expressed optimism about a potential diplomatic resolution.
