Iran Sets Five Conditions for Resuming Negotiations with US

Iran has declared it will not resume peace talks with the United States until Washington meets five specific conditions, according to the Fars news agency. These prerequisites include an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon; the lifting of anti-Iranian sanctions; the unblocking of Iran’s immobilized assets; compensation for war-related damages; and formal recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian sources stated these measures are essential to establish a minimum level of trust necessary for returning to the negotiation table. Additionally, Tehran conveyed through Pakistani mediators that the continuing naval blockade in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman exacerbates mistrust. This development follows a military operation launched by the US and Israel against Iran in late February, which resulted in significant casualties. Although a ceasefire was declared in April and talks were held in Islamabad, no long-term settlement was reached. Iran currently rejects the unilateral extension of the ceasefire by US President Donald Trump, asserting its right to act in its national interests amidst ongoing regional tensions and failed diplomatic efforts.
