Warsaw Denies Reports of Cancelled US Troop Deployment to Poland

The Polish government has firmly denied reports from leading US media outlets claiming that the United States abruptly cancelled the deployment of nearly 4,000 troops to Poland. While sources such as Stars and Stripes and Military Times reported that the 2nd Armoured Brigade Combat Team's mission was halted at the last minute, Polish officials clarified that the cancellation relates to broader adjustments in US military presence in Europe, specifically linked to President Donald Trump’s decision to reduce troop numbers in Germany. Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and other senior officials stated that the matter does not concern Poland, emphasizing that the rapidly developing capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces and existing US presence continue to strengthen NATO's eastern flank. The reports cited unnamed officials and lacked official Pentagon confirmation, with a spokesman stating there was nothing to announce. This development occurs amidst ongoing tensions regarding European NATO allies' support for US actions against Iran and previous reductions of US troops in Romania. Poland remains open to hosting additional forces withdrawn from Germany, viewing the situation as distinct from its own bilateral security agreements with Washington.
