UNICEF Reports 200 Child Deaths in Lebanon Since Israeli Attacks Began

UNICEF has reported that at least 200 children have been killed in Lebanon since March 2, when Israeli military attacks commenced as part of a broader conflict involving the United States and Iran. Despite a ceasefire agreement reached on April 17, violence has persisted, resulting in an additional 23 child deaths and 93 injuries. This brings the total number of injured children to 806, averaging nearly 14 casualties per day. Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF's regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, highlighted the severe psychological trauma affecting approximately 770,000 children, who face anxiety, displacement, and a lack of mental health support. The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health stated that the overall conflict toll has reached 2,882 deaths and 8,768 wounded. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue, with Israeli and Lebanese representatives engaging in peace negotiations mediated by the United States in Washington. UNICEF warns that humanitarian resources are insufficient to meet the escalating needs of affected children, urging immediate psychosocial support to prevent long-term mental health consequences.
