Trump Cancels Deployment of 4,000 US Troops to Poland Following Germany Withdrawal

The United States has canceled the planned deployment of 4,000 troops to Poland in a sudden strategic shift following the Trump administration's decision to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany. This last-minute change occurs amid escalating diplomatic tensions between Washington and Berlin, triggered by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's criticism of US actions in Iran. Although military preparations, including equipment transit and ceremonies, were already underway, the Pentagon halted the mission. NATO officials stated that rotational forces are not central to the alliance's formal deterrence plans, aiming to downplay the security impact. However, the decision has raised concerns in Warsaw, which had hoped to bolster its defenses against Russia with additional American presence. Polish President Karol Nawrocki had previously expressed readiness to host these troops.
