Lebanon: 22 Killed in Israeli Attacks Amid Ongoing Peace Talks

Despite ongoing peace negotiations in Washington, Israeli military attacks in Lebanon have resulted in 22 deaths, including eight children, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Israeli forces targeted approximately 40 locations in southern and eastern Lebanon, utilizing drones to strike vehicles and residential areas. The Israeli military justified these actions as necessary measures against Hezbollah infrastructure, while simultaneously ordering residents from additional villages to evacuate. Concurrently, Hezbollah continues to shell Israeli targets. The UN peacekeeping mission, Unifil, has criticized both parties for endangering its personnel and positions near Naqura. Since the nominal ceasefire began on April 17, at least 393 people have been killed in Lebanon, bringing the total death toll to nearly 3,000. The conflict has caused significant destruction, with over 50,000 houses damaged or destroyed. This violence persists even as Israeli and Lebanese representatives engage in a third round of direct peace talks in Washington, mediated by the United States.
