Israeli Strikes on Vehicles in Lebanon Kill 12 Ahead of US-Mediated Talks

Israel intensified military strikes in Lebanon, killing 12 people, including children, in attacks targeting vehicles across the country. The incidents occurred just before a new round of direct negotiations between Beirut and Tel Aviv, mediated by the United States in Washington. Lebanon's Health Ministry reported that three strikes near the coastal highway south of Beirut resulted in eight deaths, while additional attacks in Sidon and the Tyre district killed four others. These raids took place despite an April ceasefire agreement, under which Israel reserves the right to act against imminent threats. Since the ceasefire began, over 400 people have been killed in Lebanon by Israeli actions. Hezbollah continues to oppose direct talks under fire and has escalated drone attacks against Israeli troops operating within a declared 'yellow line' zone. Meanwhile, Lebanese civil defense forces mourned personnel killed in previous strikes. Veteran diplomat Simon Karam is set to lead the Lebanese delegation in the upcoming talks, as Washington seeks a diplomatic breakthrough amidst ongoing hostilities that have claimed more than 2,800 lives since March.
