Iranian cruise missiles strike and reportedly destroy Amazon data center in Bahrain
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched cruise missiles against Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in Bahrain, with state media claiming the facility was 'destroyed' in retaliation for U.S. strikes on an under-construction nuclear plant in Darkhovin, Iran. This is not the first attack on AWS infrastructure in the region; multiple data centers were hit by drones and missiles after the U.S. began its bombing campaign. Amazon had already placed the sites in 'hard down' status from late March to early April and moved customer operations to unaffected locations, ensuring service continuity. The attack follows the collapse of a U.S.-Iran ceasefire on June 17, 2026, after Iran allegedly attacked three ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Subsequent U.S. strikes on IRGC forces in Jordan led to the latest Iranian retaliation. The IRGC has also threatened other American tech companies including Microsoft, Apple, Google, and OpenAI's Stargate data center in Dubai.
