ConflictThe US Army is ending an experimental drone battalion in Europe less than a year after its creation. The battalion, tasked in November 2025 with testing dedicated drone operations and incorporating lessons from Ukraine, will revert to its airborne infantry mission following Exercise Saber Junction in August and September 2026. The decision comes as Acting Army Chief of Staff Gen. Christopher LaNeve issues a strategic roadmap emphasizing countering enemy stand-off weapons and unmanned systems. Despite ending this experiment, the Pentagon continues its broader push for drone dominance, including a June 2025 executive order and a new multinational task force by US Central Command using one-way attack drones.
