US Army Ends Experimental Drone Battalion in Europe
The US Army is disbanding its experimental drone battalion in Europe less than a year after its creation in November 2025, which was tasked with learning from Ukrainian drone operations. The battalion will revert to its airborne infantry mission after Exercise Saber Junction in August-September 2026. The decision aligns with Acting Chief of Staff Gen. LaNeve’s “Army Azimuth” roadmap, which prioritizes countering enemy stand-off weapons. Meanwhile, the Pentagon continues expanding drone capabilities, including a new multinational task force by US Central Command.
