2024 Pharoes Beach Sprints International Trophy Draws 250 Athletes to Oeiras, Portugal

The second edition of the 1924 Pharaohs Beach Sprints International Trophy brought together approximately 250 athletes from 31 countries last weekend, reaffirming Portugal's capacity to organize world-class international events. The competition also served as a preview for the 2027 Beach Sprints World Championship, which will be held in Oeiras and will mark the beginning of qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Portuguese Team Delivers Strong Performance

Following three gold medals won at the U23 World Championships in Germany, the Portuguese rowing team showcased its full potential at Paço de Arcos beach in Oeiras.

Bruna Parente Wins Bronze in Women's Single Sculls

Bruna Parente was the first Portuguese athlete to reach the podium, claiming Bronze in the Women's Single Sculls. This marks her second consecutive medal in the event, following a silver in the previous edition.

"I think it was a very good performance. I came to win, but the competition was even stronger this year, and I knew it would be very difficult. Still, I am happy with third place, and it is further proof of the quality of the work we have been developing throughout the season. Now the focus is on continuing to improve and presenting myself in the best possible form at the World Championship."

Gold and Silver in this event went to Spain and Australia, respectively.

Afonso Costa and Patrícia Baptista Take Bronze in Mixed Double

Current European Beach Sprints Champions Afonso Costa and Patrícia Baptista won Bronze in the Mixed Double after winning the B Final.

"The balance of the competition was positive. We managed to win a medal, although it was not the color we aimed for – our goal was gold. Now the focus is on the major competitions ahead. Before the World Championship, we will have the European Championship, where we will defend the European title won last year. It is a very important event for us, and we want to fight for medals again. Then, the goal is to reach the World Championship in the best possible form."

Gold and Silver in this event went to France and Poland, respectively.
