Trump administration bans imports of Chinese humanoid robots and power inverters

The Trump administration, through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), announced new restrictions banning imports of new Chinese-made humanoid and quadruped robots, as well as connected power inverters used in renewable energy systems, batteries, and data centers. The measures, based on two National Security Determinations from an interagency panel, aim to secure the domestic AI supply chain. The panel cited risks that foreign firms could remotely turn off inverters or exfiltrate data, and that advanced robots could be used for surveillance or intelligence gathering. Republican Representative John Moolenaar, chairman of the House Select Committee on China, praised the move and urged Congress to codify it into federal law. The Chinese embassy in Washington did not immediately comment.
