Israel Aerospace Industries unveils HYPNOSIS navigation warfare system to counter drone swarms

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has introduced HYPNOSIS, a non-kinetic navigation warfare system designed to counter large numbers of drones and other satellite-guided aerial threats. Instead of physically shooting down drones, HYPNOSIS scrambles the GNSS signals (including GPS) that drones rely on for navigation, using jamming to overpower legitimate signals and spoofing to broadcast fake signals that misdirect the drone. IAI markets HYPNOSIS as a soft-kill system, offering a cost-effective alternative to expensive interceptor missiles, which are economically disadvantaged against cheap mass-produced drones like Iran's Shahed. The system consists of a network of mobile jamming and spoofing stations coordinated by a central command center that can operate autonomously to respond to multi-directional swarm attacks. IAI executives emphasize that HYPNOSIS is designed to complement existing hard-kill missile defenses, adding a critical and cost-efficient layer to multi-layered defense concepts.
