Ukraine's MAGURA Kamikaze Drone Boats to Be Built in U.S. Shipyards
Ukrainian drone maker UFORCE, parent of the combat-proven MAGURA unmanned surface vessel program, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Alaska-based RECONCRAFT to manufacture the MAGURA family of autonomous maritime drones in the United States. The deal, announced at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, aims to transfer battlefield lessons from Ukraine's war against Russia directly into American production lines. The MAGURA V5, a low-slung jet-propelled kamikaze boat, has been credited with sinking or damaging over a dozen Russian vessels in the Black Sea since 2022. RECONCRAFT, which builds combatant craft for U.S. Special Operations Command, will pair its shipbuilding infrastructure with MAGURA's software and hull design. UFORCE USA CEO Sean Plankey, a former Coast Guard officer and cybersecurity official, will lead the initiative. The partnership also enters the Pentagon's Drone Dominance competition.
