U.S. signs nuclear power agreement with Saudi Arabia
The United States signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia on July 22, 2026, to develop a civilian nuclear program in the kingdom. The deal requires review by Congress under the Atomic Energy Act. Saudi Arabia currently produces virtually all of its domestic energy from fossil fuels, with nearly 60% of electricity from natural gas and 40% from oil, and is the largest oil producer in OPEC.
