Poland Scrambles to Respond After Pentagon Cancels Troop Deployment

The cancellation occurs amidst complex political dynamics, with former President Donald Trump expressing frustration over European support in Iran, despite Defense Secretary Hegseth previously praising Poland as a model ally for its high defense spending. Domestically, Poland remains politically divided between Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s pro-EU government and nationalist President Karol Nawrocki. However, there is a strong bipartisan consensus on the critical importance of American troops for deterrence against Russia. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has engaged in urgent consultations with both Polish leaders and U.S. military commanders, including Gen. Alexus Grynkewich.
