U.S. Approves $80 Million Sale of Switchblade Kamikaze Drones to Greece
The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $80.1 million sale of 350 Switchblade 300 Block 20 loitering munitions to Greece, along with 35 fire control systems and Switchblade 600 anti-armor variants. The portable drones, built by AeroVironment, can be launched by a single soldier and used for precision strikes against personnel or armored vehicles. The deal reflects Greece's ongoing military modernization amid tensions with Türkiye over Aegean Sea disputes. The Switchblade's combat record in Ukraine, where over 700 units have been used, has driven demand among U.S. allies. Congressional notification is the first step, and the sale is unlikely to face opposition given Greece's NATO membership.
