FinanceChinese automaker Xpeng announced on August 24, 2026, that its robotics unit raised over $900 million in its first funding round, setting a record for a single private financing in China's embodied AI sector. The round was led by IDG Capital with strategic investments from Tencent and Alibaba, valuing the robotics business at over $6.3 billion. Gaorong Ventures also participated. Funds will be used to develop robotics hardware and software, train physical AI models, collect data, build mass-production facilities, and support global expansion. Xpeng aims to produce 1,000 units of its IRON humanoid robot per month by year-end, with initial deployments at retail stores and industrial campuses. Commercial sales in China and overseas are scheduled for 2027. CEO He Xiaopeng personally leads the robotics unit as the company pushes toward mass production, leveraging synergies with its electric vehicle business in sensors, software, batteries, and supply-chain management.
