FinanceVista Energy, an Argentine shale oil producer, saw its shares rise over 4% in premarket trading after billionaire Peter Thiel's hedge fund, Thiel Macro LLC, disclosed a $76 million stake in the company. The stake, consisting of nearly 1.2 million American Depository Shares, was revealed in a U.S. SEC filing for the second quarter ending June 30. It is Thiel Macro's second-largest disclosed position after Amazon. The fund also added stakes in several U.S. energy and utility firms. Thiel, co-founder of Palantir and PayPal, recently relocated to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has met with senior officials of President Javier Milei's government, which is pursuing economic reforms to attract foreign investment into natural resources.
