Billionaire Peter Thiel's hedge fund, Thiel Macro LLC, acquired a 1% stake (about $76 million) in Vista Energy, an Argentine shale oil producer operating in the Vaca Muerta formation. The investment, disclosed in an August 2026 SEC filing, is Thiel Macro's second-largest disclosed position after Amazon. Thiel recently relocated to Buenos Aires and met with Argentine President Javier Milei in April 2026 to discuss economic reforms and attracting foreign capital into Argentina's natural resources sector.
