TechGermany, Norway, Canada, and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) have officially launched the planning phase for the multinational 212CD submarine programme. A joint planning meeting was held in Kiel at the end of July, bringing together representatives from the three navies, procurement agencies, and industry partners including Kongsberg Maritime and Multiconsult. The meeting established working groups and laid the groundwork for upcoming contract negotiations. This follows Canada's selection of TKMS as the preferred supplier for its Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP), which aims to replace the Royal Canadian Navy's Victoria-class submarines with 12 new vessels based on the 212CD design. The 212CD is a non-nuclear submarine derived from the 212A class, featuring an enlarged diamond-shaped hull for reduced acoustic signature, diesel and hydrogen fuel cell AIP propulsion, and advanced ORCCA combat system. It will be armed with Naval Strike Missiles, heavy torpedoes, and support UUV operations.
