PoliticsDemocrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform are investigating the Pentagon's reclassification of four U.S. soldiers' deaths from the Iran war casualty count to a newly created 'Overseas Operations' category. Ranking member Robert Garcia and Rep. Suhas Subramanyam sent a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth demanding complete records of all changes to the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) involving Operation Epic Fury and the new category. The lawmakers seek explanations for why the soldiers initially appeared in the Iran war total, were removed, and then reclassified under a category with a start date of July 7, coinciding with a new 60-day War Powers Resolution period. The investigation aims to determine if the Pentagon is manipulating casualty records to justify military operations against Iran. The Defense Department declined to comment.
