Saab wins SEK 8.7 bln order to equip four German Navy frigates with combat systems

Swedish defense company Saab has received a major order worth approximately SEK 8.7 billion to deliver and integrate combat systems, sensors, and composite structures for four new MEKO A-200 DEU class frigates for the German Navy. The contract was signed with German naval firm TKMS, the prime contractor for the frigates. Saab's deliveries are scheduled between 2029 and 2032, with an option for additional ships. The order includes Saab's 9LV combat system, fire control and combat management systems, Sea Giraffe 4A and 1X surveillance radars, and passive sensors. Saab CEO Micael Johansson stated the deal will enhance Germany's anti-air, anti-submarine, and anti-surface warfare capabilities. The frigates are part of Germany's naval expansion following increased defense spending after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
