Lockheed Martin unveils cheaper PAC-3 ACE missile defense interceptor

Lockheed Martin has introduced the PAC-3 Adapted Capability Effector (ACE), a new air and missile defense interceptor designed to offer allied militaries a more affordable alternative to current options. The company states that PAC-3 ACE will cost less than half the price of the currently fielded PAC-3 MSE interceptor, which is approximately $4 million per missile. The system is built upon the existing PAC-3 fire control structure and fully integrates with the Patriot weapon system and the US Army's Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS). It is intended to counter air-breathing targets, cruise missiles, and short- and close-range ballistic missiles. Lockheed Martin plans to work with US and European industry partners to bolster supply chain resilience and international interoperability. Initial production could begin as early as 2028.
