Grupo Antolin, a 75-year-old Spanish auto parts manufacturer founded in 1950, filed for Chapter 15 bankruptcy recognition in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York on July 20, 2026. The filing seeks to protect the company's US assets while it implements a restructuring plan approved by a Spanish court on July 17. The company, which generated €3.73 billion ($4.25 billion) in revenue in 2025, operates 111 production plants in 23 countries and employs 20,000 workers, including 2,100 in the US. It supplies major automakers such as Ford, General Motors, Stellantis, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Renault-Nissan. The restructuring was prompted by macroeconomic headwinds including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukraine war's supply chain disruptions, US tariffs on European auto components, and high debt obligations with maturities in 2027 and 2028. The company plans to continue normal operations without terminating employees during the restructuring process.

The auto parts and components industry has faced significant headwinds over the past two years, including inflation, high interest rates, and cautious consumer spending on discretionary items. These pressures have forced manufacturers such as Grupo Antolin to seek restructuring.
Major automobile parts and components company Grupo Antolin has filed for Chapter 15 recognition of a foreign main proceeding, seeking to protect its assets, rights, obligations, and liabilities in the United States as part of its Spanish restructuring plan.
It is important to note that Grupo Antolin has not filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A Chapter 15 filing differs from Chapter 11, as it seeks recognition of a foreign restructuring or insolvency proceeding to protect an entity's U.S. assets. While the process is filed in a bankruptcy court, it is not a bankruptcy filing itself.
The Burgos, Spain-based company, founded in 1950, submitted its Spanish restructuring plan on July 10, 2026. The Spanish court accepted the plan on July 17, according to court documents. Final court approval is expected in late September or October 2026.
Grupo Antolin Files Chapter 15
Grupo Antolin, which generated €3.73 billion ($4.25 billion) in revenue in 2025, filed its Chapter 15 petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan on July 20. According to the petition, the filing aims to:
- Facilitate the administration of the Spanish restructuring
- Protect the company's U.S. assets
- Enforce the Spanish restructuring plan on any affected creditors
The 75-year-old auto components manufacturer supplies products to many of the world's largest automobile manufacturers, including:
- Ford Motor Company
- General Motors
- Stellantis
- Volkswagen
- Hyundai Motor Company
- Renault-Nissan
Operates in 23 Countries
Grupo Antolin operates 111 production plants and "just-in-time" delivery centers across 23 countries, employing 20,000 workers. In the United States, the company runs:
- 10 production plants
- 1 technical-commercial office
- Approximately 2,100 employees nationwide
The company plans to continue normal operations during its reorganization. Court papers did not indicate any plans to terminate employees.
"The Spanish proceeding allows the debtor's business operations to continue, employees to be maintained, and liabilities to be restructured," wrote Foreign Representative Cristina Blanco Santo Tomás in the petition.
According to court documents, the company supplies over 110 automotive brands and approximately 20 original equipment manufacturers. Its components are included in more than 500 vehicle models globally, including nine of the ten best-selling vehicles worldwide.
Manufactures Auto Parts and Components
Grupo Antolin manufactures a wide range of automotive products, including:
- Automobile doors
- Instrument panels
- Central consoles
- Coatings
- Roof components
- Electronic systems (lighting, smart surfaces, human-machine interface systems, and sun visors)
The petition cited macroeconomic and geopolitical headwinds over the past six years that affected the automotive sector as the driving force behind the Spanish restructuring and Chapter 15 recognition. These headwinds include:
- The COVID-19 pandemic, which temporarily disrupted vehicle production worldwide
- The Ukraine war, which caused significant supply chain disruption and increased raw material and energy costs
- Recent U.S. tariffs on European vehicles and auto components
High Debt Obligations Led to Filing
The company also cited its high debt obligations and substantial loan maturities coming due in 2027 and 2028 as key reasons for seeking the Spanish restructuring and Chapter 15 filing.
Grupo Antolin's restructuring filing comes less than a year after major U.S. auto parts manufacturer First Brands Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas on September 25, 2025.
