Lockheed Martin unveils Morfius X-Rotor counter-drone system at Farnborough Airshow

At the 2026 Farnborough Airshow in London, Lockheed Martin introduced the Morfius X-Rotor, a ground-launched, recoverable counter-drone system using high-power microwave (HPM) technology. The company claims it can neutralize over 50 enemy drones in a single flight, offering a low cost per kill compared to traditional interceptors. The system is designed to be reusable, compatible with any command and control system, and does not require unique sensors or fire control radars. Lockheed Martin is accelerating prototype production for frontline troops, following successful flight tests in Arizona, California, and Oklahoma. The announcement comes amid U.S. efforts to reduce reliance on expensive interceptor missiles against cheaper drone threats, such as Iranian Shahed drones. The company also introduced a cheaper Patriot interceptor as part of this cost-reduction strategy.
