Borussia Dortmund beat RW Oberhausen 3-1 in friendly; debutants Lerma, Yamamoto score

Borussia Dortmund kicked off their summer preparations with a win, as two new signings made an immediate impact on their debuts. In a 3-1 victory against regional league side Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, Justin Lerma (18) and Takato Yamamoto (18) each found the net in front of 7,359 spectators. Coach Niko Kovac's team, however, had to work hard for the result.

Slow Start for Dortmund

BVB struggled to find their rhythm early on. Inaccuracies in build-up play and a lack of grip against a courageous Oberhausen side proved costly. The punishment came quickly: in the 6th minute, Timur Kesim reacted fastest after a Dortmund turnover and fired the ball unstoppably into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Alexander Meyer with no chance.

Offensively, little came together for the visitors. Fabio Silva missed several good opportunities, and it was only toward the end of the first half that Dortmund began to take control.

Lerma Strikes Before Half-Time

Then Justin Lerma made his mark. The Ecuadorian, who joined BVB from Independiente del Valle this summer, initiated the attack himself. A deflected ball bounced back to his feet via Mathis Albert, and Lerma remained ice-cold from a tight angle to score his first goal for Black and Yellow shortly before the break.

BVB Turns the Game Around

After halftime, Kovac made a complete substitution. Guirassy immediately injected new momentum and turned the game in the 55th minute with a crisp finish into the near corner.

The second debutant sealed the result. Takato Yamamoto, signed for the U23 team this summer, showcased his qualities in the 78th minute. The quick Japanese player broke through strongly on the right side, remained composed in front of goal, and slotted home to make it 3-1. His first appearance in the BVB jersey could hardly have gone better.

Prates Watches from the Stands

Kauã Prates (17), on the other hand, did not feature. The Brazilian newcomer is not yet eligible to play due to regulations for minor players and watched the game from the stands alongside his family.
