Zelensky: Ukraine Intercepts 94% of Drones, 73% of Missiles in Massive Russian Attack

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted 94% of 1,567 drones and 73% of 56 missiles during a massive two-day Russian attack on May 13 and 14, 2026. Zelensky characterized the coordinated strikes as a deliberate terrorist tactic aimed at straining Ukraine’s air defense systems. Despite high interception rates, the attack caused significant damage, particularly in Kyiv, where a residential building was destroyed. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with seven confirmed deaths and 39 injuries in the capital alone, while nearly 20 people remain missing. Impacts were also reported in Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Kharkiv regions. In response, Zelensky has instructed intelligence services to propose counter-measures and emphasized the urgent diplomatic priority of securing additional anti-ballistic missile systems. He stated that the effectiveness of Ukrainian diplomacy in the coming months will be judged by its ability to supply these critical defense assets. The President highlighted that protecting rear infrastructure and cities from ballistic missiles remains the key challenge for national security.
