Where is Muslim-American Assimilation Headed?
A new poll of 750 Muslim Americans commissioned by the American Islamic Congress reveals a complex picture of assimilation. While 95% express pride in America and 85% believe in the American Dream, significant concerns emerge on foreign policy issues. 33% side with the Iranian regime, 66% view the Muslim Brotherhood favorably, and 35% support Hamas. 47% believe Jews are too frequently portrayed as victims, and 17% admit unfavorable attitudes toward Jews. The author, an Iraqi-American activist, contrasts this with a strong patriotic streak among many Muslim Americans, but warns that identity politics and a victimhood mindset, particularly fixation on the Israel-Palestine conflict, risk undermining integration. The poll also shows 60% of respondents acknowledge global Sunni-Shi'a tensions affect US Muslim relationships, and 44% say Muslim organizations are excessively focused on Palestine.
