Two MIT Students Named 2026 Knight-Hennessy Scholars
MIT has announced that two of its students, Sunshine Jiang and Rupert Li, have been selected as 2026 Knight-Hennessy Scholars. This prestigious fellowship provides up to three years of financial support for graduate studies at Stanford University. Sunshine Jiang, a 2025 graduate with degrees in physics and electrical engineering and computer science, will pursue a PhD in computer science at Stanford. Her research focuses on embodied artificial intelligence and robotics, aiming to create adaptive systems for general-purpose robots. She is also recognized for her leadership in expanding STEM access for girls and promoting traditional Chinese art. Rupert Li, a 2024 graduate with backgrounds in mathematics, computer science, and data science, is currently pursuing a PhD in mathematics at Stanford. A former Marshall Scholar at the University of Cambridge, Li specializes in probability, discrete geometry, and combinatorics. He has received numerous other awards, including the Hertz Fellowship and Goldwater Scholarship. The announcement highlights the academic excellence and diverse research interests of MIT affiliates, reinforcing the institution's strong connection to leading graduate programs and interdisciplinary innovation in science and technology.
