Plans for a A$1.5 billion Trump Tower on Australia's Gold Coast have been abandoned just three months after their announcement. Altus Property Group, the local developer, attributed the collapse to the increasingly 'toxic' image of the Trump brand, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions involving Iran. However, the Trump Organization strongly disputed this narrative, asserting that Altus failed to meet basic financial obligations and characterizing the blame on world events as a distraction from their defaults. Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate offered a third perspective, suggesting the split resulted from disagreements over profit margins and branding fees rather than politics or financial insolvency. Industry sources indicated that investor wariness regarding luxury hotel risks also played a role. The proposed 91-storey tower, which would have been Australia's tallest building, faced significant local opposition, with over 120,000 signatures on petitions against the development. No formal development application was lodged, and the project details have since been removed from the Trump Organization's website, marking a swift end to the company's first official venture into the Australian market.
