Survey: Healthcare Students Increasingly Use Betting Platforms Like Kalshi to Fund Degrees
A survey by workforce infrastructure company Clasp reveals that over 70% of healthcare students use prediction markets and betting platforms such as Kalshi and FanDuel at least a few times a week, with nearly 70% starting to use them to pay for school or living expenses. Despite less than half reporting positive gains, students are budgeting winnings into tuition plans. The survey of 1,000 respondents, conducted between June 16 and 28, 2026, follows the Trump administration expanding borrowing limits for certain graduate degrees, including healthcare programs. Clasp CEO Tess Michaels noted that students are not betting for fun but see these platforms as a quick way to access cash due to time constraints and difficulty obtaining private loans without wealthy cosigners. Over 56% also rely on credit cards or content creation on platforms like TikTok and OnlyFans. Nearly 30% of respondents fail to reliably cover monthly expenses.
