RWE's Nordseecluster A Offshore Wind Farm Delivers First Electricity to German Grid
RWE's Nordseecluster A offshore wind farm has achieved a major milestone by delivering first electricity to the German grid. Located 50km north of Juist in the German North Sea, the 1.6GW project's first turbine was installed last month. The initial 660MW phase (Nordseecluster A) is under construction with 44 Vestas turbines being installed using DEME's vessel Norse Wind, targeting full grid connection by early 2027. Electricity is routed through two offshore substations to the mainland. The second phase, Nordseecluster B, will add 900MW with 60 additional Vestas turbines planned for 2028, targeting commercial operation in early 2029. RWE holds 51% stake with Norges Bank Investment Management owning 49%. The combined project is expected to generate approximately 6.5 TWh of electricity annually, contributing to Germany's energy security and industrial decarbonization.
