Russian missile strike on open-air weapons exhibition near Bucha exposes Ukrainian security failures
On July 24, 2026, a Russian missile attack on an open-air weapons exhibition near Bucha, Ukraine, killed 10 people and injured around 100. The event, organized by the Association of Manufacturers of Unmanned Systems (Armady), was held without military authorization, lacked adequate shelters (nearest was 100 meters away and only 34 sqm), and was publicly advertised online nine days in advance, allowing Russian intelligence to easily identify the target. Ukrainian President Zelensky called it a 'costly mistake' and said such exhibitions are unacceptable under wartime conditions. The organizer, Vasyl Honcharuk, was arrested and charged with criminal negligence, facing 5-8 years in prison. Victims included Valentyna Savytska, head of the Centre for International Cooperation and Strategic Communications at the State Security Service.
