Rheinmetall Begins Construction of One of Europe's Largest Powder Factories in Bavaria
Rheinmetall has broken ground on a major expansion of its Nitrochemie subsidiary in Aschau am Inn, Bavaria, to build one of Europe's largest and most modern powder factories. The 'Firepower' project involves an investment of approximately €500 million at the site, expanding the area from 90 to 110 hectares. Production is set to begin gradually from 2027, with full capacity expected by 2028. The expansion will more than double current output, adding 2,500 tons of powder, over 5 million combustible molded parts, and over one million modular propellant charge modules annually. The workforce is expected to grow from 800 to 1,400 employees. Rheinmetall aims for a group-wide capacity of 20,000 tons of propellant charge powder by 2030 to meet Bundeswehr, NATO, and EU ammunition needs. Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder and German Parliamentary State Secretary Nils Schmid attended the ceremony, emphasizing the project's importance for national and European defense sovereignty.
