Raytheon completes successful demonstration of Next Generation Short Range Interceptor
RTX's Raytheon announced the successful demonstration of its Next Generation Short Range Interceptor (NGSRI), a new missile system designed to replace the Stinger surface-to-air missile for the US Army. The demonstration involved multiple guided missile launches using Raytheon's soldier-portable Command Launch Assembly (CLA), with each missile achieving detection, tracking, and destruction of simulated aerial threats. The system combines the CLA with a precision optics seeker and a solid rocket motor developed by Northrop Grumman, offering improved target acquisition, longer engagement ranges, and greater lethality than the Stinger. The NGSRI is designed for both shoulder-launched and vehicle-mounted systems. The program is part of US Army efforts to modernize short-range air defense capabilities against drones and other aerial threats. Raytheon is leveraging modular design and automated manufacturing to facilitate faster production and deployment.
