Rani Khedira Included in Tunisia's World Cup Squad After Switching National Association
Rani Khedira, a midfielder for 1. FC Union Berlin, has been selected for Tunisia's 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup. This inclusion follows his recent decision to change national football associations from Germany to Tunisia, a move driven by his desire to participate in the global tournament. Khedira, whose father is Tunisian, made his international debut for the Tunisian national team, known as the 'Eagles of Carthage,' in late March. Previously, he had represented Germany in 13 junior international matches and had declined a similar switch before the 2022 World Cup, citing his German upbringing. He joins fellow Bundesliga professionals Ismael Gharbi (FC Augsburg) and Ellyes Skhiri (Eintracht Frankfurt), as well as Elias Saad (Hannover 96), in coach Sabri Lamouchi's roster. The team, assisted by German coach Michael Hefele, is set to compete in Group Phase matches against Japan, the Netherlands, and Sweden during the World Cup hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
