Iran Declares RAF Fairford a Legitimate Target After US Bomber Missions
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England, a 'legitimate target' following the use of the base by US B-1 bombers for missions against Iran. The IRGC's 46th statement since the conflict resumed warned the 'British monarchy' against further involvement, accusing the UK of historical grievances including the 1953 coup, backing Iraq in the 1980s war, and leading the occupation of Palestine. The UK government responded by stating its armed forces are ready to defend the country using a layered air and missile defense system alongside NATO allies. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has maintained the policy allowing US use of British bases for defensive strikes against missile sites attacking shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Foreign Ministry separately condemned the UK's decision, calling London a principal architect of regional instability.
