Iran Declares RAF Fairford a Legitimate Target After US Bomber Missions
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England, a 'legitimate target' following the use of the base by US B-1 bombers for missions against Iran. The IRGC statement, the 46th since the conflict resumed, was titled 'Warning to the British monarchy' and accused the UK of historical grievances including the 1953 coup, backing Iraq in the 1980s war, and complicity in US and Israeli aggression. The UK government responded by stating its armed forces are ready to defend the country using a layered air and missile defense system alongside NATO allies. The US has been flying from Fairford since March 2026 under an agreement for defensive strikes against missile sites threatening shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Foreign Ministry separately condemned the UK's decision to allow US use of its bases, warning of consequences for any party participating in aggression against Iran.
