US to Investigate Over 40 Biolabs in Ukraine, Report Says

US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard has announced a comprehensive probe into more than 120 biological laboratories across over 30 countries, funded by US taxpayer money. According to reports from the New York Post, more than 40 of these facilities are located in Ukraine. The investigation aims to identify the specific locations of these labs, determine the pathogens they contain, and scrutinize the nature of the research being conducted. Gabbard cited the catastrophic global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as a key motivation for reviewing dangerous pathogen research. The report highlights that some labs previously received funding through a Department of Defense program designed to dispose of weapons of mass destruction post-Cold War. Concerns regarding ethical, financial, and security issues surrounding current clinical trials have also been raised. This development contrasts with the Biden administration's earlier denial of US biological laboratories in Ukraine, which it had dismissed as propaganda. The move follows President Donald Trump's May 2025 executive action banning federal funding for gain-of-function research in countries with insufficient oversight, including China and Iran.
