Hanwha Ocean signs agreement, MoUs to boost Korea-US shipbuilding ties
Hanwha Ocean has deepened South Korea-US shipbuilding collaboration by signing one Professional Services Agreement and two memoranda of understanding with US partners at the opening ceremony of the Korea-US Shipbuilding Partnership Center in Washington, DC. The agreement with Leidos covers joint design of the Global Fast Sealift (GFS), a dual-use platform for commercial shipping and military sealift. Gibbs & Cox, a Leidos subsidiary, will support the design. Two MoUs address workforce and supply chain needs: one with Hanwha Philly Shipyard and Delaware County Community College for training and apprenticeship programs, and another with the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and Growth Partnership to identify local suppliers and strengthen the US shipbuilding supply chain. Hanwha Ocean president Insub Jung stated the company is prepared to contribute to revitalizing the US shipbuilding industry.
