German Ice Hockey Star Manuel Wiederer Escapes Bordeaux Wildfires, Focuses on Season Training
Manuel Wiederer, a 29-year-old German ice hockey forward for the Eisbären Berlin, narrowly escaped devastating forest fires in the Bordeaux region of southwestern France during a vacation. The fires have burned 42,000 hectares and prompted a state of emergency. Wiederer, who was in the affected area for only a few days, considers himself lucky to have left before the worst. Now back in Berlin, he is voluntarily training hard for the upcoming season, including three days on ice and weight room sessions. He also revealed he received custom-made skates from equipment manager Dirk Perschau, which he plans to debut when the season starts, aiming for a successful campaign with many goals.
