Analysis Finds Mainstream US Media Complicit in Framing Gaza Conflict

A new analysis by The Intercept reveals that mainstream US media outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, and MSNBC, exhibited systematic bias favoring Israel during the first year of the Gaza conflict. The investigation examined over 12,000 articles and 5,000 television segments, concluding that coverage was often one-sided, racist, and dehumanizing toward Palestinians. Key findings include the disproportionate use of the phrase right to defend itself for Israel compared to Palestinians, and the frequent application of the term human shields to justify civilian casualties while ignoring similar Israeli actions. The report highlights that emotive language like massacre and barbaric was exclusively used to describe attacks on Israelis. Additionally, the analysis notes that Palestinian victims, including journalists and children, received significantly less sympathetic coverage than their counterparts in the Ukraine war. The study argues that these media patterns helped legitimize Israel's military actions and obscure the scale of suffering in Gaza, while domestic coverage largely focused on anti-Semitism rather than Islamophobia or the impact on Arab-American communities.
