Estonian MOD Official: Ukraine Shifts Focus to Striking Russian Rear Areas
Gert Kaju, head of the defense readiness department at the Estonian Ministry of Defense, reported that Ukraine has strategically shifted its long-range strike focus toward Russia's rear areas and transportation hubs. This tactical change aims to disrupt Russian supply chains and logistics supporting frontline troops. Kaju noted that Ukraine now conducts approximately 5,000 strikes monthly on targets situated about 20 kilometers behind the front lines. Despite a temporary decrease in long-range exchanges during the Victory Day holiday, fighting intensity has risen, with around 200 daily combat engagements recorded last week, marking a one-third increase from the previous period. Kaju also highlighted strengthening ties between Russia and North Korea, evidenced by the presence of North Korean infantry in Moscow's Victory Day parade. Furthermore, he stated that Russia maintains its demand for Ukraine's unconditional surrender, insisting that any negotiations must occur in Moscow, thereby ruling out genuine ceasefire prospects despite brief lulls in aerial bombardment.
