Chinese Modder Runs GeForce RTX 4060 on Huawei Arm Workstation Using Modified Nvidia Driver
A Chinese modder known as VoidTech has successfully gotten an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card working on a Huawei Qingyun W510 Arm-based workstation running Windows 11. The achievement was made possible by borrowing a graphics driver from Nvidia's upcoming RTX Spark, which runs Arm Windows 11 natively. The Huawei workstation uses a Kunpeng 920 CPU with 24 cores, but its single-threaded performance is significantly weaker than modern x86 processors, leading to poor gaming performance (e.g., 21 FPS in Black Myth Wukong at 1080p Medium). VoidTech could not get video output directly from the RTX 4060 due to missing encoder support in the driver, so he used Sunshine/Moonlight game streaming to run the system headlessly. The experiment demonstrates the feasibility of using discrete Nvidia GPUs on Arm Windows platforms, albeit with significant performance and compatibility hurdles.
