Canadian Startup North Vector Dynamics Unveils CM-70 Lightweight Counter-Drone Missile
Calgary-based defense tech startup North Vector Dynamics announced the CM-70, a lightweight counter-UAS interceptor missile weighing 3 kg (6.6 lb) with a 3.5 km range and speed up to 900 km/h. Designed to destroy small drones at a fraction of the cost of traditional air defense missiles, the CM-70 uses semi-active laser guidance to operate in GPS- and communications-denied environments. The missile carries a forward-firing fragmentation warhead and can be launched from ground, vehicle, or airborne platforms. The Czechoslovak Group invested in the company in May 2026 through its Tech Horizons fund, citing the need for affordable multi-layered defense against Shahed-class drones. The announcement emphasizes Canadian sovereign defense manufacturing capability.
