Arrest Warrant Issued for Moldovan Man Suspected of Drone Espionage at Munich Defense Company
The Munich Public Prosecutor General's Office has obtained an arrest warrant against a 37-year-old Moldovan national on suspicion of espionage. The suspect is alleged to have flown a drone over the premises of the German-French defense group KNDS (formerly KMW+Nexter) in Munich on Wednesday, producing security-relevant video recordings intended for a foreign entity or prohibited organization. The drone was sighted over the facility where the Leopard 2 main battle tank, Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer, and reconnaissance vehicles are produced jointly with Rheinmetall. The accused is currently in pre-trial detention in a Bavarian correctional facility. The case highlights ongoing concerns about foreign espionage targeting sensitive German defense infrastructure.
